Ray Cummings, author of more than 750 stories and novels in the Science Fiction and detective genres (pulp fiction) of the 1920s and 30s. Covers for his early Science Fiction novels Brigands of the Moon(1931) and The Girl in the Golden Atom (1922), also issue 1 of Astounding magazine (1930).
Cummings style could be clunky but there is a charming naivete about The Girl in the Golden Atom with it’s smitten young scientist and his size altering drugs. Chapters headings such as “Into the Ring”, “The World of the Ring” and “Testing the Drugs” add to the wide-eyed simplicity of the storytelling. Formulaic, but fun.
